Phi Sigma Sigma was founded on November 26, 1913 at Hunter College in New York. It was the first non-sectarian sorority, welcoming women with any religious background.

The Beta Upsilon Chapter at American University is a 76 women strong sorority who strives for excellence in everything that they do.

Phi Sigma Sigma's motto is 'Diokete Hupsala' meaning 'Aim High'- and our sisters certainly aim high in everything they do, from scholarship, to philanthropy, to social functions.
