A Note to My Kid

A Note to My Kid, a project of PFLAG National, gives the parents, families, and friends of the LGBTQ community an opportunity to share unconditional love.

Designed to bring a little more love into people’s lives, A Note to My Kid ( was created in May 2011 when bullying and LGBT teenage suicide had permeated the media like never before.

At the time we wanted to create an easy way for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning community, their parents, family and friends to express their unconditional love for one another.

By doing so we’ve created a concrete reminder that there’s a lot of love in people’s hearts just waiting to be shared. We also realized that the stories we were constantly hearing in the media that focused on bullying, bigotry and the ultimate decision to end ones life because young people were drowning in despair needed to be balanced with stories of hope, love and unity.

We know that many people find it difficult to broach the subject of sexual orientation. And so – with this in mind - we've ensured that A Note to My Kid serves as a resource that allows people to see, hear and read how others are expressing their love and support for their LGBTQ family and friends. This, we believe, has the power to help instill a sense of normalcy when people talk about coming out or having a gay family member, friend or co-worker in their lives.

And we know for a fact – we’ve received hundreds of emails confirming it - that A Note to My Kid is helping people feel comfortable enough to take a giant leap forward and have a crucial, life-changing conversation with their loved ones.

What's our ultimate goal? To help create such impenetrable bonds between members of the LGBTQ community and their loved ones so that if a gay teenager is bullied at school, a lesbian is discriminated against at work or a transgender person is chastised while simply walking down the street that the negative impact will be far less. Why? Because they will know that they are loved unconditionally by the most important people in their lives.

If you are a member of the LGBTQ community, tell someone you love how much their support means to you. If you know someone who is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning his or her sexuality, let them know you love them unconditionally.

“Time goes by fast. People go in and out of your life. You must never miss the opportunity to tell these people how much they mean to you.”

So write a note. Share a video. Submit a picture. The impact will be greater than you've ever imagined!

We hope you will find the notes, videos and pictures shared uplifting and inspirational. If you are interested in sharing any of the above for inclusion on A Note to My Kid, please send an email to
