City Council Hearing on TIFs and Press Conference

On Thursday at 4pm, the City Council's Finance Committee will hold an informational hearing on the use of TIFs (Tax Increment Financing) for development projects.

Join progressive groups and citizens from around the city at 3pm to demand that the fast-tracking of the Port Covington TIF be slowed down to allow for transparency and a substantial public input process in the City Council’s consideration of the deal. The public needs the opportunity to learn more about the project and ensure that it is a good deal for all of Baltimore’s citizens, not just the multi-billionaire developer, Kevin Plank of Under Armour.

At $535 million, the Port Covington proposal is the largest
TIF in US history. In a recent Baltimore Sun article, Muni-Cap, the city’s own advisors, suggest that the real cost to Baltimore will add up to more than $2 billion over the next 30 years. At this tremendous cost, we simply can’t afford to force it through without public scrutiny and assurance that it will truly benefit all Baltimoreans.

Stand with us to demand that this deal stops being fast-tracked.
